The latest release from our partner Bolymin is their BL12864G3 128×64 resolution OLED module, whilst this would appear to be a nothing out of the ordinary on closer examination it couldn’t be further from the truth. Bolymin were approached by a customer looking for a high contrast display module that could perform well in a damp and humid environment, all the standard displays would suffer in these conditions with the OLED technology fairing worst due to the current nature of OLED technology.
Bolymin’s unique solution was to encapsulate their COB 128×64 OLED module in a clear sealed housing with only the pin header needed for connection to the display protruding to the outside world. This proved to be a great success as the encapsulated module surpassed any previous displays trialled in the customer’s very demanding application. Although no test study has been carried at at this point Bolymin believe that the addition of the case will vastly improve the OLED’s overall product life as moisture in the air is a major factor when calculating the usable life of an OLED display. The housing also provides other benefits in that the module is now a lot more rugged so it can withstand many more bumps, scrapes and rough handling.
