The demand for reliable Touchscreen Solutions for Transportation, in operator and user control systems, cannot be overstated. This includes but is not limited to public transport systems, utility vehicles, airborne craft, and marine vessels. These touch technologies must exhibit unwavering performance across a wide range of operating environments and conditions and this is where CDS can assist you.
As a distinguished global touch solution supplier, CDS specializes in the development and manufacturing of touch screens and controllers. Their extensive range of PCAP touchscreen solutions caters to diverse applications within the transport industry, including trains, buses, electric vehicles, construction plant, airborne systems, utility vehicles, and marine craft. Our range features a wide range of Touchscreen Solutions for Transportation.
Application-Focused Design
Operator displays in public transport systems often incorporate dual-screen redundancy designs to mitigate unexpected failure circumstances. Dual-screen operator displays can feature two touchscreens utilizing a single integrated cover glass. However, the electric fields generated between the two projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreens can potentially interfere with each other. CDS has conducted internal tests and employed different signal frequencies to mitigate interference issues, ensuring the successful deployment of dual-screen applications.
Operating in various environments poses a myriad of challenges, encompassing temperature extremes, fluctuations, magnetic and electrical noise, mechanical shock and vibration, ultraviolet radiation, and the potential for fluid ingress. These factors present potential threats to the consistent and reliable operation of touchscreen solutions for transportation.
Immunity from Extreme Temperatures
Graphical user interfaces with integrated touchscreens must maintain stability and reliability even under extreme temperatures and rapid temperature changes. Here at CDS, we address this requirement by developing and supplying PCAP (projected capacitive) touch panels that adhere to the stringent automotive standard operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, with a storage temperature range of -50°C to +90°C. To ensure resilience, temperature change is rigorously tested through operational thermal cycling of -40°C for 30 minutes followed by +85°C for 30 minutes, repeated for 100 cycles using our environmental chamber.
Transportation systems and infrastructure equipment frequently operate in outdoor environments, necessitating the ability to withstand prolonged exposure to high levels of ambient light and direct sunlight. Without proper protection, extended UV (ultraviolet) radiation can lead to yellowing, hazing, and material aging and degradation. CDS PCAP touchscreen solutions undergo rigorous testing to meet industry standards.
Ambient Light Cannot be Overlooked
High ambient light environments can impact display image clarity and visibility due to light reflections. To address this issue, optional optical bonding is employed to eliminate internal air gaps, thereby reducing internal reflections and refraction effects. CDS also offers touch panels with a Low-Reflective (LR) or anti-glare design to enhance image legibility in bright light conditions. Ambient light sensors can also be included to help in these environments.
