Why ARM Processors? CDS Explain Embedded

ARM

They are cheap as compared to other processors. They are designed with such features that it consumes less power. The devices with ARM processor can have a much better battery life than other processors.

An ARM processor is one of a family of CPUs based on the RISC (reduced instruction set computer) architecture developed by Advanced RISC Machines (ARM). … ARM processors are extensively used in consumer electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, multimedia players and other mobile devices, such as wearables.

The primary difference between ARM and X86 processors is that ARM processors follow a RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) architecture, while x86 processors are CISC (Complex Instruction set Architecture). … But, x86 does generally outperform ARM.

But ARM is adding more cores, instructions, and faster pipelines in smaller spaces to boost performance. … The improvements increase the possibility of Apple switching over to ARM architecture on its Macs. That hasn’t happened yet as Intel’s mainstream Core chips are significantly faster than current ARM processors.
