Baanto International Ltd. Launches New ShadowSense™ Products Expands Open Frame Touchscreen Family with 15” and 21.5” Wide E Series

Leveraging the strength of the ShadowSense™ position sensing technology, the new products expand the multi-touch options and capabilities for kiosk, gaming, Industrial, ATM, PC and PC monitor markets.

Mississauga, Ontario, July 25th, 2012 – Baanto International Ltd. (“Baanto™”) a leading independent manufacturer of touchscreen and position sensing technologies and products today announced the production release of two new products into the ShadowSense™ E Series touchscreen family.  Available now, the 15” (4:3 aspect ratio), and 21.5” Wide (16:9 aspect ratio) designs add to the current Baanto product offering of open frame touchscreens targeted at industrial control, POS, ATM, and kiosk applications.

The E series touchscreens now comprise six models ranging in size from 15” to 22”.  All designs are optimized to provide robust, cost effective multi-touch performance and gesture recognition, enabling customers to replace the aging single-touch resistive, SAW, and surface capacitive technologies.

Touch performance is exceptional as the designs feature a touch response time of 6 to 8 milliseconds and touch detection of objects as small as 2 mm in diameter.  The ShadowSense algorithms are extremely efficient and all touchpoint processing is performed by the Baanto touch controller.  As a result, the interface to the host PC is a Windows® 7   USB HID packet, requiring no drivers and resulting in no consumption of CPU resources.   A perimeter based technology, the ShadowSense touch sensor is independent of the protective glass, resulting in brighter displays, immunity to casual scratches and debris on the screen, vandal resistant operation, and features IP65 sealing to resist dust and fluid intrusion.

“The production release of these two products now positions Baanto with one of the most comprehensive multi-touch solution sets in the market”; states Av Utukuri, Baanto CTO and Founder;   “We now have 4:3, 5:4, 16:9, and 16:10 aspect ratio touchscreens ranging in size from 15” to 22” in production.  All models now feature the new Rev 5.0 firmware with improved 4 and 5 finger touch performance and enhanced Dashboard configuration options.  We’ll continue to expand the breadth of our mid-size product offering as customers establish new requirements,” adds Utukuri,  “In addition, a number of our customers have completed rigorous testing protocols over the last several months which have validated that we have a great solution for embedded applications.  For example, we easily passed a critical test for optical touch systems which is to function in full sunlight, specifically demonstrating complete immunity to light levels greater than 10,000 footcandle intensity.  Environmental testing included fluid and dust intrusion testing to the IP65 standard, and aggressive shock and vibration testing without failure or the need for repeated touch calibration.  As a result, we now have development programs for displays as small as 8” as customers have recognized that ShadowSense based products meet and exceed their performance, reliability, and cost objectives.”

“There are now well over 400 million users of smart phones and tablets and the majority of these users are becoming accustomed to using multi-touch gestures to control the device functions and applications.” commented Joe Kotas, Baanto CEO.  “The ease of use and intuitive nature of gesture control makes the traditional hunt and peck operation of a single touch device now seem awkward and archaic.   We see this trend accelerating significantly with the impending release of Windows 8,” noted Kotas, “not only with PC applications, but in embedded applications as well.  In summary, Baanto is enabling our customers to implement software and application solutions with a multi-touch technology that provides better optical performance, better durability, and better reliability.  In most cases, the ShadowSense solution even has a lower acquisition cost than the single touch solution currently being used.”

Available now, the ShadowSense™ E Series touchscreens are industrial quality, specifically designed for long-life, high-usage applications where multi-touch functionality, display quality and reliability are critical.
